A new musical proposal makes its official premiere within the framework of the Nicosia International Festival 2025: the Nicosia Fusion Trio, an innovative newly formed ensemble, takes us on a journey from Argentina to Cyprus. The concert, titled “East to West / Past to Present”, will take place on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre (20:30).
Two Cypriot musicians and one Argentinian join forces on the stage of the Municipal Theatre of Nicosia, uniting sounds from East and West, blending classical with contemporary music and Spanish temperament. Three artists with different roots but a shared passion, forming an ensemble that speaks directly to the heart and mind. A concert that is also an invitation to a journey without borders.
The Musicians
Angelos Angelidis – woodwinds
Angelos is a clarinetist and musicologist, a member of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra (CySO) since 2003, and a teacher in music schools and conservatories. A pioneer of the Cypriot clarinet, he has given solo performances, recitals, and developed a compositional body of work spanning a wide range of musical genres.
Marios Nikolaou – percussion
Marios, an acclaimed percussionist, has been Principal Timpanist of the CySO since 2015, with extensive experience on Greek and international stages. A member of the Ergon Ensemble, he is also a teacher and active participant in contemporary musical projects.
Sebastián Legovich – guitars
Sebastián, a guitarist and composer from Buenos Aires, has studied classical, jazz, and flamenco guitar, as well as percussion. He has performed in various European and Latin American cities, bringing his vibrant and colorful musical language to the Nicosia Fusion Trio.
The Encounter
The musical collaboration of the Nicosia Fusion Trio was born quite naturally in 2025, following the visit of the Argentinian guitarist and composer to Cyprus as part of the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs program. When they met at the CySO, Angelos expressed his belief that it was inevitable that their paths would one day cross—or unite—musically. And so it happened. Their collaboration represents a shared search that connects different goals and styles among the three musicians.
Music without borders
The trio brings together guitars, winds, and percussion in an authentic musical experience with no geographical or temporal boundaries. With references to flamenco, tango, classical music, Cypriot traditions, improvisation, and world music, the Nicosia Fusion Trio creates a new soundscape full of intensity, virtuosity, and emotional depth. Through original compositions and creative reinterpretations of well-known works, they offer a musical journey that inspires, moves, and invites the audience to surrender to an experience of freedom, reflection, and aesthetic enjoyment.
A bridge of cultural collaboration
This fusion of diverse musical elements serves as a bridge of cultural collaboration. The three musicians promote mutual understanding and enhance cultural exchange, highlighting the possibilities that emerge when different traditions and aesthetics come together creatively. This interweaving is world music in its essence—music from different countries, regions, and eras—aiming to travel from Cyprus to Spain, where Sebastián lives, and beyond, across the globe.
